Frogs!
Some information on frogs I had from 1998 - 2005.

Notes
May 9, 2000 - I noticed the frogs calling a few weeks ago. They usually do this around 5:30pm everyday. One time they started calling about 7:30pm. Today, they were calling around 10:29am for a few minutes and then again an hour or so later. Hopefully one day soon I'll figure out a way to sample their calls and add them to the website for everyone to hear.

July 30, 2000 - I bought a smaller Cobalt (Dyeing) Poison-Dart Frog.

January 9, 2001 - I went to the pet store today to buy a Red-Eyed Tree Frog. I kinda went home with two babies! - Purchased from The Aquarium Center in Randallstown, Maryland (I buy a lot from them). *Update* The Red-Eyes are now in a 30 gallon tank.

May 26, 2001 - I am almost finished preparing a 6 foot tall by 3 foot long by 1.5 foot wide tank for more poison-dart frogs. I bought the tank and stand for only $150 from House of Tropicals because the bottom of it was busted out and the stand had some water damage. The tank and stand were stained a hidious color. I fixed the bottom of the tank with some Silicone Aquarium Seal, and stained the tank and stand a Red Mahogany. I had to replace one of the doors (It broke when I moved). That was only about $24.

January 5, 2004 - I purchased a bi-color poison frog a couple of years ago and it was apparently diseased. Due to this, my six foot poison frog tank is now a wonderfully exspensive habitat to three sugar gliders.

Hexagon Tank
Here's how the tank started out.

Then I gave it some friends...

Frog Tank 2

A few plants (including about 6 air plants) and eventually, after waiting forever for it to come in, I got some moss for the tank!

Another view.

Frog Tank 3

This picture is of the tank with the fountain still in it.

The day I got my second frog I decided to see why the fountain wasn't pushing water out as strong as it used to. Well it's a good thing I did this, because I discovered that the whole area under the fountain (and of course the rest of the tank) was flooded.

A new look!

So I took the fountain out, moved their house (which they don't use much now) over to the other side of the tank, and added a piece of bark in the back (which is where they spend most of their time).

Here's another view.

Poison Frogs
These are the types of frogs I have.

Golfodulcean Poison Frog (Phyllobates vittatus)

This species is found only in a small area of Costa Rica on the Pacific Coast.

Green and Black Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates auratus)

This spicies comes from southern Central America and northwestern Colombia.

Cobalt (Dyeing) Poison-Dart Frog

Native to Costa Rica.

Diet
I feed my Poison Frogs a diet of flightless fruit-flies (although they seem to fly just fine), and 10-day-old crickets (which seem to be just the right size). I dust the crickets in Herptivite (multivitamins) and Calcium with VIT.D3.

*Note* When feeding frogs, use live food just smaller than the size of their mouth from end to end.

*Note* It is worth it to feed your crickets a healthy diet! What they take in, the frogs will take in!
